TRAFFIC CONNECTIONS

 

      Bitola has good traffic connections with neighboring and more distant cities within the country and outside its border, in almost all directions. Only 14km away of the city is the state border with the Republic of Greece, established after the Balkan wars in 1913.

      The most important traffic connections and highways towards north are: Bitola-Prilep (previous sign M-27, today M-5), which connects with the international highway near Gradsko (sign E-75 or M-1). Then to the west: Bitola-Ohrid (sign M-26 or M-5), which connects with the west highway. To the south: Bitola-Greek border-Florina (former sign M-27 or E-65, today M-5). The roads of regional character: Bitola-Krushevo, Bitola-Demir Hisar-Kichevo, Bitola-Pelister, Bitola-Nizhepole, Bitola-Bach-Staravina, and Bitola-Makovo-Rapesh etc. It should also be noted that almost all roads, including the ones leading to the most distant rural settlements, are asphalt.

      Railroad line connects the city with Prilep-Veles, and there is an international railroad line with Greece: Bitola-Lerin (Florina) – Voden (Edessa) – Solun (Thessalonica), established in 1894.

      For those passengers who intend to travel from Bitola to more remote destination and out of the country the services of Skopje airport (170km) and Ohrid airport (85km) are available.
